Recently I made a little progress with the map editor for Wolf 3D. Now it allows you to insert actors into the scene.
Every actor, as in the original Wolfenstein 3D, is displayed as a sprite, and more specifically - the billboard facing all the time towards the camera - and can be oriented in one of eight directions of the world. Each character animation consists in fact of eight separate animation - one for each of the eight angles under which an actor can be viewed. Suitable frame of the animation is selected in each main loop update based on the angle of the actor in the world, the angle at which "looks" at him the camera and the current frame, displayed animation.
